A broken siphonophore. The moment before a slow death.

Initally marine biologist thought they had found a new species of gelatinous zooplankton, but upon investigation they were found to be individual zooids torn away from the stolon of a siphonophore. Each zooid is genetically identical, but has a specialised role to play within the colony. The siphonophore acts as an individual being, but is colonial in biological terms.
Initial image was used to screen print, but now it works best as a repetition.
