digital surface

Crustose lichens send specialised hairs (hyphae) into the rock to anchor the lichen colony have been detected beneath the surface (Mitton, 2012). What seems to be an un-penetrable exterior is combined; separation is impossible without destruction. I theorise this is parallel to our relationship with the digital landscape. It is important to question and visualise how intrinsic the digital is to our ecology and the future of our society and reality.
