Hauntologies of Lichen; Echoes of the machine
Following on from Biotic vs Abiotic Topograhies.
Translating the macro lichenscape into a topographic image by processing through Cura, exporting to 3D print, to then replicate back into itself as a Stucco. Ghosts of the digital perforate its surface as it aims to replicate its past biotic self.

Biotic vs Abiotic Topographies
The work explores utilising machines and their processes to translate biotic surfaces into digital abiotic extensions of themselves, investigating the potential boundaries between where our autonomy and biology stops and the digital begins when interacting with technologies.
Starting with an image of the Icelandic lichen colonies, the machine aims to interpret the tones as depth, 3D printing dark areas as higher areas, culminating in a new topographical landscape dictated by the 2D digital image. The colonies only become recognisable replicas of itself once backlit.
